Super Alpha

Pacific Pale Ale

Super Alpha is a hoppy refreshing pacific pale ale that uses the crisp tartness of wheat malt and a blast of fruity New Zealand hops to create a crisp refreshing beer. Initially designed by Head Brewer Kieran Haslett-Moore to wash the taste of sea water from his mouth after hauling in his crab pot,Super Alpha takes it’s name from an unusual variety of New Zealand hop that gives the beer its trademark lemon grass character. The ultimate end to a summer’s day.
Tasting Notes:
Aromas of lemongrass, citrus zest, and coriander give way to flavours of nutty wheat and Thai spice with a hint of sweet malt which cushions a lemony hop character before a long crisp savoury finish.
Food Matches:
White fish, shell fish, crustaceans, Thai dishes, chicken, veal.
Grist: NZ Pilsner Malt, German Wheat Malt and Carapils
Hops: Pacific Jade, NZ Cascade, Motueka and Super Alpha
Other: Coriander Seed
Yeast: American Ale
ABV :  5.0%
IBU:  20

  3. Had your super alpha golden ale on the blue bridge ferry.. Top marks guys … Bloody nice ! Please please give some tasting notes to the bar staff on the ferry though… When asked what it was … I was told by the dear young thing behind the bar (who clearly hadn’t tasted it.. Or even looked at it! ) that it was “oh, like a dark beer”. I tried it anyway, glad I did! Will spread the word among the hutt brewing scene… My two cents though… Market it as a pale ale,, It’s not golden… And the better for it… The hop additions are subtle , but perfect for a summer pale ale… And on that note… I might go have another!
